Guardians of the Sixth Gate: Amy Prokopis
I’m not easily impressed, but Guardians of the Sixth Gate was a fantastical novel that transplanted me into a world both real and fake in ways that surprised and mesmerized me. Urban fantasy is hard to get right, but author Amy Prokopis nailed it. She blended elements of the best young adult books you’ve read with the best fantasy and knocked you out.
Her characters were frustratingly real. Yes, frustrating. Teens. Drama. Budding romance. You had it all. Sometimes it was beautiful. Sometimes it was painful. Yet, each of them were characters that readers will connect with. We were them. We are them. We know or have known them. For better or worse, the characters will stick with you!
Her plot was interesting with a few curious moves to keep me wondering for the next book. She was great at adding suspense, but sometimes just letting you be surprised. I didn’t want to stop reading, and I was frustrated by the end of the book, both by the ending and that it was over.
And the ending, oh baby. Let me say: just wait for it. You will be on the edge of your seat.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review in advance of release.
