Must read 🏆
I wish I could give this book 10 stars. Grief, twisty turns, and Black girl magic! I needed this read more than I realized.
Bree. Our main character. Our wonderful, strong, snarky, grieving Bree. What can I say? She’s the girl we all want to be. She’s fire and fury. She’s kind and caring. She’s harsh and hurting. She’s tough as nails. The problem is, even nails bend when they take too much pressure.
Her grief is crippling her, but despite all that’s pressing her down, Bree is determined to find her mother’s killer. Problem is, everyone believes her mother died in a car crash.
With some help from a handsome friend, Bree was on a mission. That friend cause chemistry and complication in the plot. I loved that. It was perfect.
Knights. Magic. Demons. A tale as old as time is spun perfectly in this book. It ripped my heart out, but I wanted to bleed for it. I was begging for more.
Bree was real to me. I felt her pain. I was her. I wanted justice and revenge. I wanted what she wanted. The character development was phenomenal.
The world building outstanding. As an urban fantasy, she didn’t do cheap world building. We still had a rich and cohesive experience that felt live we the readers were submerged in the story. I appreciation that.
Overall, I adored this book! It was what we should all be aspiring to do. It talked about the big topics, racism, grief, sexism, but it also talked about things like being homesick and having butterflies for a crush. To mix those complex emotions in one book with a fabulous storyline is the chef’s kiss of perfection.
Make this your next read. You won’t regret the sleep you lose, but you will need book two immediately.
